Individual volunteers can help:
Behind the scenes:
Preparing supplies for activities
Fundraising
Event planning
Special projects to make the Altenheim feel like home
Stocking, labeling and organizing supplies
Administration and clerical support
Data entry and process improvement
Keeping the organization clean
Laundry
By working with people:
On outings to events in the community and/or sight-seeing
With activities like bingo, card games, exercise programs, art projects, music and other activities
Resident transportation to and from activities off site
Encourage residents to get out of their rooms to go for a walk, play cards or other games, watch a movie or just engage in socialization
With food distribution and socializing
Visitors find their way
Groups of Volunteers can help with:
Maintain the flower beds and gardens
Cleaning and sanitizing
Holiday decorating
Special projects
Special events - music, retiring flags or other activities outdoors on the patio, around the fire pit or in the community
+ Requirements for Volunteers
- Must be 15 or older
- Complete a orientation including code of conduct and confidentiality
- Complete tuberculosis screening test or provide evidence of screening done within the year
- Provide documentation of yearly flu shot/influenza vaccination
- If 18 or older, allow the Altenheim to compete a background check
- Submit a letter of reference from someone unrelated

- Confidence and ability to engage with elderly residents in this community and their families
- Flexibility and willingness to take initiative
- High-level of comfort asking for assistance, guidance and directions
- Commitment to honest communication and immediate reporting of any concerns
